One’s guard must stay raised
Not against others in war,
But against one’s pride.
To hate another is to hate one’s self.
To hurt another is to hurt one’s self.
To love another is to love one’s self.
To heal another is to heal one’s self.
How long, how long will it be
Before we see
There is no “me,”
But only “we.”
Who am I, really?
Is there a single answer?
No. Thank goodness, no.
I try so hard
To find “The Way,”
Pursuing each and every day.
Oh, how I’ve sought,
But all for naught,
The Path was always here to stay.
A small, daily dose
Of silent, still reflection
Does infinite good.
Do not be afraid
To face all that is within.
In this there is peace.
Never been that great.
My story’s full of mistakes,
But I am growing.
“People never change”
Is a teaching that’s so strange.
This phrase so often thrown at me
For if the worst of us can alter,
What reason have we to falter?
It’s nice to think that we’re all stuck,
The way we are, subject to luck.
It keeps us safe from harder tasks
Like taking off our social masks
Exposing all we bear within,
‘Cause God forbid we heal our sin.
So when another fool has stumbled,
We point, accuse, ensure they’re humbled.
For if all eyes are trained away,
Our weaknesses are free to stay.
So don’t write off “the other guy,”
Give empathy a chance, and try
To keep in mind you’re bound to fall.
So what you want, extend to all.
If it’s grace you would demand,
Instead of judgment, lend a hand.
Peace be with you!
